Village Solar empowers marginalised women in rural Malawi by enabling them to distribute clean energy products within their communities. Through training and support, Village Solar enables these women to earn a livelihood while contributing to adopting clean energy solutions.

Challenge

Facing a mismatched and inconsistent identity, the client sought to reposition themselves as an eco-friendly, bold, and vibrant brand that reflects their new values and ethos.

The idea

We were inspired by Village Solar’s unwavering commitment to a community-centred approach and the vibrant richness of African culture—empowering women and uplifting rural communities in the process. Guided by this vision, we set out to place these values at the heart of the brand, making them the foundation of its growth. By embracing these core elements, we aim to build a brand that not only resonates but also celebrates and strengthens the cultural and communal roots of Malawi, one home at a time.

A logo mark that tells a story

Our focus was to reimagine the original sun icon, aligning it with the brand’s eco-friendly mission and deeper purpose. We used bold, irregular shapes to convey the new look and feel, incorporating a small house at the centre to reinforce Village Solar’s deep-rooted, community ties. In refining the design, we noticed the sun’s rays could form the letter 'V,' adding a unique and meaningful touch.
