THE HERITAGE PROJECT
WORDMARK/ANIMATION
THE BACKGROUND
From Sticky Baits comes ‘The Heritage Project’. A series of films inspired by the rich heritage of carp angling in regard to the anglers in the films and the venues they choose to fish. It documents the historical importance of specific areas to the UK’s carp fishing scene from the past & present and captures the anglers who have carved their carp angling journey in the areas in question.
THE STORY BEHIND THE LOGO
I instantly thought of a ‘Downton Abbey'esque' type feel - going with a serif font with all the fancy flourishes & flicks fit the bill nicely. I didn’t want to go too overboard as it can be quickly done with embellishing floral patterns, so I kept the wordmark simple, which in turn let me explore ink droplets to really bring it to life.
The hardest part was finding a serif font that worked, and after a tedious amount of searching, I eventually landed on 'Athelas', which felt right. To make the font bespoke and add a little polish to the mark, I descended the R with a little flick.
I had to think of how the mark would work on different products - as this was for a film, choosing the option to stack the words made it easier for it to be applied on smaller things.
